What an MES is generally designed to do

An MES commonly coordinates detailed production execution: dispatching work, collecting machine or operator events, tracking work in process, enforcing routing, and maintaining granular genealogy. The exact surface depends on the vendor and implementation. Those are not the responsibilities AutoOps claims to provide.

What AutoOps is designed to do

Why AutoOps is not an MES replacement

AutoOps does not control equipment, dispatch production, calculate OEE, provide real-time machine telemetry, or maintain complete material genealogy. If those are the core requirements, an MES or another execution platform belongs in the evaluation. AutoOps may sit alongside that system if its data can be supplied through supported inputs.

When the smaller layer may fit

AutoOps is relevant when the plant already has systems of record but still rebuilds briefings, investigations, FMEAs, CAPAs, or SOPs by hand. The value proposition is a narrower operational layer over existing data. It should be evaluated against those specific workflows, not against the entire MES category.
